They Shake Me Cotton On T-Shirt Offends With Baby Slogans
Australian t-shirt company Cotton On has been known for printing up crude slogans for their child and baby clothing lines. T-shirts with slogans like “I’m a Tits Man” and “mmm boobies” were nothing new to the people of Australia.
However, many in Australia say that Cotton On recently went too far. The “You Shake Me” t-shirt design plays on Shaken Baby Syndrome, a serious form of child abuse that kills up to 300 babies each year in the United States. A reader named Elizabeth on the Mamamia blog told her story of the apathy she came across when she contacted Cotton On. She emailed Cotton On asking what they were thinking, only to get canned responses.
It didn’t take long for Cotton On to publicly respond when mainstream media like The Australian and the Sydney Morning Herald started taking notice. It’s too bad a bunch of their customers can’t change their mind, but media coverage will.
