Should Have Been Bigger?
A Reddit user posted about a product they ordered – a Journey’s Edge Electronics iPod amp. Only, they expected it to be a bit bigger judging by the photo they use on their packaging…

Wikipedia is awesome. One of the best sites on the internets. But sometimes their fundraising banners end up in funny places.

These billboards are the greatest! Made by the people at Y&R in Amsterdam.
A funny post on Reddit shows an advertisement from Toys “R” Us that could be taken a different way.

A Consumerist reader saw this funny robot holding a sign outside a jewelry store. At least she looks happier than the regular people I usually see holding up signs on the side of the road. Sucks about that whole robot-taking-human’s-job thing, though,
Whiskey Tango, a bar about 20 miles from Miami, began a promotion to stir up their beer and liquor sales at the beginning of the Miami Heat season. John Todora and partner Bob Hartley came up with this bright idea: if the Miami Heat lose the basketball game that bar patrons are watching, they will receive a $25 credit towards their alcohol bill.
No one thought the Heat would start the season this poorly. Even with stars Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the Heat have a 9-8 record. 8 losses has resulted in Whiskey Tango giving $30,000 in alcohol credit already!
There seems to be some theme among a lot of blue collar businesses where the nastier you can be, the better. Here is 4 overly sexual blue collar advertisements. I’ve seen way worse, but this is all I could find on this Monday night. Do you have any sweet and sexual blue collar examples you can share? Leave a comment!
Nations Trucks in Sanford, Florida will hook you up with a free AK-47 if you buy one of their used trucks. As you can see in the AK-47 photo below, this is a big firearm. What do people shoot with these…deer? You need to pass a background check to get the $400 gun voucher. Or, if you’re in that small minority that has no use for an AK-47, you can receive $400 cash instead. Nations Trucks unveiled this promotion on Veteran’s Day, one year after they had a successful free handgun promotion.
I was born in 1984, so it’s hard for me to imagine that sexist ads like these were the norm just a few decades ago. The Best Article Every Day has the 25 Horribly Sexist Vintage Ads. There’s some pretty big names on this list like Sears, Kenwood, Hoover, Lysol, Kellogg’s, Schlitz, and General Mills. Pretty sure most of these ads are from the 1950s and 1960s. In some ways, society has come a long way.
When Centurytel and Embarq merged in 2009, CenturyTel began a large re-brand campaign for their new identity CenturyLink. Fair enough. But I want to know who came up with the slogan seen in these billboards:
Be Stronger Connected
