Billie Joe Armstrong, the singer of Green Day, was kicked off a Southwest flight on September 1 because his pants were sagging too low. A flight attendant repeatedly asked BJ to pull his pants up. According to a TV producer for ABC 7 in San Francisco who was on board, BJ apparently said things like:
“Don’t you have better things to do then worry about that?” and “I’m just trying to get to my f**king seat.”
I guess he has a point but dude, pull up your pants! You’re not 16. After he was booted, BJ sent out this tweet on his official Twitter account.
This rules. Some Southwest Airlines pilot broadcasted on the wrong frequency while flying. He managed to piss everyone off from gay flight attendants to fat women. Southwest suspended the pilot without pay, sent him to sensitivity training and required him to apologize. Flight attendants are not satisfied, though, and may sue Southwest.
An Air France airplane clipped another airplane at New York City’s Kennedy Airport. The video below shows that it wasn’t minor and passengers probably got really jolted. I hope no one pulled a Billy Mays headbang.
This will make you feel safer while flying. TSA in Houston, TX at Bush International Airport missed a loaded gun located in a man’s computer case. Not sure how it happened, but the man realized their mistake when he landed and alerted authorities. He forgot that the firearm was in his computer case. Since laptops need to be taken out of cases and scanned separately, this one is a mystery.
No arrests were made after Team Black Sheep flew a remote control airplane in New York City, capturing landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge and Statue of Liberty like never before (from an amateur point of view, anyway). It’s hard to believe the New York City Police and the TSA did not cause trouble for Team Black Sheep, but they insist no arrests were made. The footage was shot between 7:00AM and 8:00AM to avoid air traffic.
176 passengers aboard a United Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Buffalo due to a cracked windshield. Andrew Phelps, an employee of Boston’s WBUR was on the flight and shot the photo seen below. The flight was supposed to go from Boston to Chicago.
Is the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) going too far with pre-flight security screenings? The stories that are getting picked up by the media are pretty intense. Currently, full-body scans are part of TSA protocol. You pass through a machine and TSA employees essentially see you without your clothes on. A Charlotte, NC flight attendant named Cathy Bossi is a cancer survivor who did not want to pass through the scanner due to radiation concerns. She was told by the TSA she needed to show her prosthetic breast during her pat-down procedure. The TSA employee said ‘Well, you’ll need to show me that.’ when Bossi told her what it was during the pat-down. Fuck. This. Shit.
Check out this video of an airplane wheel exploding. This 2002 video covered a maximum energy braking test. The clip is 8 minutes long, but we’ve linked it to the 4 minute mark where fires begin after the plane is at rest.
USA Today has a great airline fee chart listing the typical coach fees you will pay when flying on the 13 major airlines. Really in-depth and a great resource. They report that revenue from these fees has increased almost 16% from a year past.
Holy shit. Heads down! stay down! I wonder how many of these 60 passengers will ever fly again. A Delta plane (Flight #4951) headed from White Plains, NY to Atlanta,GA had an emergency landing at JFK airport in New York. Check out the video below.
