God damn. This new ABC News boss Ben Sherwood sounds like he’s got some enemies in the news world. He looks like a serious d-bag in the photo to the right. But the video below takes his recent acceptance speech in front of the ABC News staff and places some very non-flattering statements throughout such as his privileged upbringing in Beverly Hills. One message even states that Sherwood lied about his mother being sick with cancer. He allegedly left his last job using this excuse in fear of his imminent firing.
Gawker (I think) are the first to post this Sherwood story with a recent update of many employees writing in with his email missteps and other stuff.

I saw this unlocked FedEx dropoff box on lunch today. A FedEx driver must have forgotten to lock this particular dropoff box. Maybe he/she had a lot on their mind. Hope no one snags that single package!

If you’ve been to Las Vegas in the past few years, then you definitely know about the CityCenter, a massive 76 acre project right on the Las Vegas Strip adjacent to the Monte Carlo and Bellagio. Within CityCenter are condos, a casino, shopping mall and entertainment, and hotels. CityCenter is the largest privately funded construction project in the history of the United States. It’s no joke. Six workers have died during its construction.

From the Consumerist. A Maryland Kmart posted a sign up asking people not to open packages. Seems like a reasonable request, amirite? The catch is, the sign is written in Spanish only. Apparently only Spanish people open up the new packages in Kmart.

Verizon Wireless has found a “glitch” in their systems going back several years which inadvertently charged customers for data session they did not initiate. All of these customers did not even have data plans! Verizon announced the massive refund after the FCC put pressure on them; they were receiving hundreds of complaints. So 15 million customers can expect refunds mostly ranging from $2-$6.
The fake data usage occurred in two ways:
- Minor data transfers due to software built-in on cell phone
- Accessing certain web links
We’re not sure what that second bullet exactly means. Did the phone’s owner access those web links on purpose? Verizon doesn’t specify this bit.

Damn, Carol. Looks like things at Yahoo! are not going smoothly. Yahoo’s sort-of-new CEO Carol Bartz may get the boot after her 18 months is up according to an article on Business Insider. Three senior Yahoo! executives have quit: Hilary Schneider, David Ko, Jimmy Pitaro.
Carol Bartz was brought in from Autodesk to turn Yahoo around, but the Yahoo stock price has been a sloth and peeps are growing tired. The recent senior exec departures will surely send the stock price down. Carol, get a management team and set a vision for Yahoo!

A recent article in the New York Times gives an eye-opening look into Nokia, an early leader in mobile technology whose leadership has been “stifled with bureaucracy” in the past decade. The biggest revelation noted in this article involves Nokia’s own touch screen mobile device which was unveiled to upper management three years before the iPhone’s release in 2007. Due to the device’s large production expense, Nokia management killed the project, which apparently has been a trend at the Finnish company. Just last week, Nokia has had to delay the release of its N8 touch-screen device due to software issues.

Multiple news sources are reporting that another oil rig explosion has taken place in the Gulf of Mexico. This time it’s a platform owned by Mariner Energy called the Vermilion Rig 38. Located 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana, the platform explosion involved 13 oil workers and one has been injured.
A platform owned by Mariner Energy Inc. in the Gulf of Mexico, 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, was struck by an explosion, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Casey Ranel said in a telephone interview.
U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough has also told CNN that workers are in water immersion suits and are waiting to be rescued. He also said that apparently there is “no product” located at this rig so hopefully pollution will not occur as it did in the BP oil spill.

Blockbuster Video has lost $1 Billion dollars over two years and will be filing bankruptcy next month. Wow. Their plan moving forward? Close down 500 stores and change their model to a Netflix/Redbox type of business. Apparently movie studios want Blockbuster Video to remain open to compete with Netflix and Redbox. Good luck with that.

Google’s Android platform rivals Apple’s App Store. We all know this. However most people don’t know that piracy is a big problem on the Android platform. Developers are losing cash on their apps and the “culture of free” has infiltrated Android. But Pingdom asserts that the problem isn’t with shady consumers, it’s that Google has not made Android apps fully available to a wide consumer base.
Only 13 Out of 46 Countries
That’s how many countries in which Android apps are available for download for Android phone owners. As Pingdom dilligently points out, this is around 30%. Total bullshit is what I would think if I was an Android developer. Thankfully I can barely work Photoshop so I can continue to simply worry about who will be cast on Celebrity Rehab 4. Oh yeah, incase you were wondering, Apple’s Apps are available in 90 countries.
